About the Takapuna Community
Takapuna was initially developed as a holiday destination with small bach-like homes focused on the stunning 1.2 km beach. The area developed quickly after the opening of the Auckland Harbour Bridge and today it is a highly desirable suburb to live. The beach is still the main focus but with Auckland City within striking distance, it's a great place to live to enjoy the best of both worlds. The beach is a great place to swim, sail, walk and people watch. And if you want to, you can walk the whole Eastern Coastline at low tide.
Eating
Takapuna has a busy restaurant and bar life, offering a wide range of cuisine and prices. Just stroll down Hurstmere Rd and the choice is yours. The new Takapuna Beach Cafe is a delightful place to stop and enjoy the location, excellent food and service.
Shopping
Both a Westfield shopping mall and high street shopping are available in Takapuna. Two supermarkets are within a couple of minutes drive of the main centre. And the Sunday Markets offer a selections of well priced goods as well as a morning's entertainment.
Transport
A bus station serves all areas and the Northern Expressway provides express links South to Auckland's CBD and to destinations further further North.
