Birkenhead

Birkenhead is a residential suburb just across the Harbour Bridge from Auckland City.

The area has a mixture of traditional villas, particularly around the historic Birkenhead and Northcote Points, and contemporary family-sized properties as well as some more modern apartment complexes, many offering stunning harbour and city views. The Barfoot & Thompson office is conveniently situated on one of the two main shopping streets in Birkenhead between the ASB Bank and National Bank. The area offers residents the convenience of two supermarkets, The Warehouse, speciality food and clothing shops, banks, travel agents and a post office. There are some excellent bars and cafés to suit every taste and occasion.

The Birkenhead area is popular with families. The local pre-schools, primary and secondary schools are well regarded. Access to some of Auckland’s top private schools and the universities is made easy by good public transport links. Birkenhead offers many recreational opportunities. There are a number of parks and reserves and some lovely scenic coastal walks. Shoal Bay is a favourite beach spot with families. Birkenhead Leisure Centre offers many sports activities including rock-climbing and a neighbouring skate park and Northcote Point is home to the popular Bridgeway Cinema. Close proximity to the city means there are many other entertainment opportunities on the doorstep, made easier by a regular ferry service.
