The character of Auckland City has changed dramatically in the past 15 years, from predominantly commercial to a more cosmopolitan mix of commercial and residential. A large proportion of Auckland’s inner city living is located in stylish high-rise apartment buildings, providing more than 18,000 dwellings throughout the city and beside Auckland’s stunning harbour.

The Barfoot & Thompson city office is located in a historic building on the corner of Fort and Commerce Streets and behind the Vero building which serves as a prominent land mark. The office is conveniently located for inner city workers, and is close to Barfoot & Thompson’s Chancery auction rooms.

Auckland City is now very well set up for those who enjoy inner city living – there are now a large number of cafes, bars and eateries, several superettes and the new Countdown supermarket on Quay Street. One of the main draw cards of city-living for younger people is the proximity to tertiary education, which is in turn appealing for overseas buyers looking for investment property that will have a ready rental market. Accessibility to the harbour and Auckland’s exciting viaduct entertainment district are significant attractions. Outdoor recreation is within the attractive green spaces such as Albert Park.
