Spreading the Magic of Reading

The Barfoot & Thompson Magic of Reading programme gives every child who spends a night or more in Starship or Whangarei Hospital Children’s Ward a new book to entertain them while in hospital and take home when they leave.

Every year that adds up to about 15,000 books! 
 
Barfoot & Thompson Storybook Competition

Two years ago Barfoot & Thompson developed the Storybook Competition to introduce school kids to the magic of reading and raise additional funds for the Starship Foundation.

It’s been a great success. Since 2008, we’ve published two fantastic kid’s books - Room 22 and Jumbo, the Monster Caterpillar and The Weather Fish. Sales of these books have raised a combined total of $60,000 for the Starship Foundation.

2010 is shaping up to be another great competition, with over 150 classrooms from around Auckland and Northland competing to have their story idea published. The published book will be sold with the aim of raising another $30,000 for the Starship Foundation.
