Henderson

Henderson is known as the capital of the ‘bustling west’, the heart of Waitakere City. From humble beginnings it experienced a boom in the 1980s as people moved out of the city looking for good value land to build their dream home. Housing in the area ranges from traditional group dwellings built on larger sections to more contemporary and exclusive properties located in some of the newer developments in the area. Henderson Heights is a good example of this with a wide selection of modern homes.

Barfoot & Thompson have had a presence in West Auckland for over 50 years. The Henderson office, the largest in the area, is prominently located on Great North Road, right in the ‘hub’ of Henderson’s shopping centre, almost next door to the popular Westcity mall.

Henderson and its surrounding areas are popular with families. There are a large number of well regarded primary, intermediate and high schools serving the educational needs of local people including Henderson Primary, Henderson Intermediate and Rutherford College. The proximity to Unitec is also a unique draw card for residents in this area.

From a recreational perspective, Henderson’s appeal lies in its proximity to the numerous stunning beaches on Auckland’s west coast such as Bethells Beach, Piha and Karekare. For those wanting a taste of Auckland’s early colonial heritage, the district offers walkways which pass through the historical timber milling area. Visual art is also celebrated here with a number of local galleries exhibiting work from a variety of local artists, including the Corban Estate Arts Centre and the Packing Shed Gallery.
