Parnell is one of the oldest and most established parts of Auckland with the feel of a quaint colonial village located right on the edge of the City. This beautiful and historic suburb nestled on the edge of the sparkling Waitemata Harbour, has many houses that date back to Victorian times ranging from classic cottages to grand old mansions. The new has been mixed carefully with the old and many modern townhouses and apartments have been built in recent years that fit sympathetically into this suburb with its mature gardens, leafy arcades and gracious streets.
Parnell has some of the most expensive homes in New Zealand, which are located cliff- top and down long private driveways.
The Barfoot & Thompson office is strategically situated in the heart of Parnell on the main shopping street. This street is lined with old buildings, many with their original facades, housing designer clothing and home ware, art, antiques, jewellery and giftware. Friends meet for coffee and brunch at the many cafes and in the evening diners can sample exotic foods from all over the globe at some of the best restaurants in Auckland.
Parnell has an excellent District school which is very popular with younger families, and this suburb also appeals to families with secondary school-age children as much of the area is in the zone for Epsom Girls’ and Auckland Grammar Schools. There are also good transport links to Auckland’s private schools.
Close proximity to the city means entertainment opportunities are on the doorstep. Parnell is on the edge of Auckland Domain and the Parnell Rose Garden is popular in spring and summer. Another summer haunt is the historic Parnell Baths, outdoor saltwater pools complete with a children’s splash pool. Nearby Newmarket has a number of leisure and entertainment options including the Olympic Pool and Fitness Centre and several cinemas.
