Across the Auckland region Barfoot & Thompson manages in excess of 2,600 two bedroom properties. The average rent for these two bedroom properties is $364. Leading the way in average rent is apartments, receiving $456 a week, compared to a unit/flat which receives an average of $334.
Across all areas, two bedroom units/flats receive 6% less rental income than two bedroom houses, with the Eastern suburbs showing the greatest variance of 16%

Over the July to December 2012 period, the average rental income for a three bedroom property in Manurewa increased by 6% to $373. Over the same period, house prices in the area increased by 8%.
Although the average sale price increased at a higher rate than rent received, the yield for Manurewa rental properties is higher than the Auckland average.

During the last half of 2012, Takapuna was the area that showed the greatest increase in average rent when compared with the same period in 2010. The area saw a 21% increase in average rent for a 3 bedroom home, from $535 in July to December 2010 to $648 in the same period for 2012. During that time inflation only rose 5%.
