Bill is a keen sportsman and former leading basketball player, who now follows the fortunes of the local North Harbour Basketball team and also the New Zealand Breakers who play in the Australian League. He tries to keep fit and healthy by working out regularly at the Millennium Institute which is handy to his home in Mairangi Bay.

Married for over 42 years and with two adult children, family life is important to Bill, who relaxes with an occasional round of golf and helping his wife in trying to keep their large garden under control.

In the past, Bill was a Rotarian for many years, involving many hours of community service, and was elected President of his local club.
