Mt Albert is a beautiful leafy suburb located only a few kilometres from Auckland’s CBD. The housing in the area is predominantly traditional bungalows and villas, many of which have been renovated and modernised in recent years.
The Barfoot & Thompson office is prominently located in the Mt Albert Village shopping centre, seconds away from the main intersection of New North Road and Mt Albert Road, and has been operating in Mt Albert for over 40 years.
Mt Albert is very well set up in terms of shopping. The Mt Albert Village shopping centre provides locals with a good choice including a range of cafes and restaurants. The Westfield shopping centre at St Lukes, which is only a few minutes away from the village, has eight movie theatres and over 130 retail outlets and services including fashion, footwear, gifts, homeware, department stores and a supermarket and is a hive of activity seven days a week.
Mt Albert offers a good selection of schooling for families living in the area. Gladstone Primary, Marist College and Mt Albert Grammar School offer excellent amenities and are very sought after by local people. The proximity to the motorway and a number of regular bus and train services running into the CBD makes private schooling an option also. The highly regarded tertiary education facility, UNITEC is also located in Mt Albert.
The Zoo and Motat are a real draw-card for people living in the area providing hours of fun and frivolity for families at the weekend. The Western Springs Park is also a very popular spot for families, creating a peaceful haven away from the bustling CBD. Alberton House (above) and Ferndale House are also well known historic landmarks in the area. Other local facilities include the Mt Albert Recreation Centre, run by the YMCA and Phillips Aquatic Centre, a large swimming pool complex.
