Rex Tawharu

Rex Tawharu
After living in Waiuku for nearly 37 years and working in the Franklin district for most of that time, Rex has built up a very good knowledge of local residents, including a ‘who’s who’ in the three district towns and places like Patumahoe, Clarkes Beach, and Waiau Pa.

Rex worked as a traffic officer when he first arrived in Waiuku, gaining considerable knowledge of the three local bodies. His involvement in the town and his love of country life brought him to the realisation that Waiuku was the place for him.

After becoming involved in the community by joining several organisations, mainly sporting, Rex soon realised that he had a good rapport with people. He served six years on the Waiuku Borough Council, three of those as Deputy Mayor until local body amalgamation. For personal and job reasons Rex did not seek election to the new Franklin District Council.

In 1987 Rex was honoured by the Queen, and was awarded a QSM for his service to the public.
After retiring from the NZ Police as a Sergeant and with over 32 years of law enforcement, he joined the new Barfoot & Thompson Waiuku office. Rex brought with him invaluable knowledge of Waiuku and the West Franklin area. Rex’s philosophy is simple – treat people fairly and the rewards will follow.
Rex and his long time companion, Margaret, who is also involved in community work, each have three children, all in their forties, and lots of family, which makes for many happy moments.
