Richard’s interest in the property market began at University where he studied diploma in Urban Land Valuation. After travelling and completing the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race with Sir Peter Blake, he worked in property finance, specialising in commercial and corporate property lending.
Richard has experience in all aspects of property sales and leasing throughout the country dealing with banks and institutions in portfolio and distressed controlled “sell-downs” throughout New Zealand and Asia.
He has held various senior management positions within the industry and was personally responsible for in excess of NZD $650,000,000 of sales.
Richard also spent seven years as a developer orientated around Auckland dealing in commercial and industrial property, specialising in, “Mixed Use”, development.
He chose to enter into the Residential market place recently and sees his background and deep love of property, design, marketing, transacting and negotiation skills along with his wide network of contacts to be of great benefit to his client base in the residential market.

Richard White was the agent that facilitated the sale of a difficult property in Chalmers St Avondale for me. A property that was next to the railway lines with a totally untidy messy tenant and next door property with a large number of cars parked all over the place blocking access.
Richard managed to get all parties on side and cooperative for the period of the sale process. He advised an Auction and organized all the advertising material and placements of, in the appropriate news papers, flyers etc.
Richard reported on the outcome of appointments with an indication of reaction from potential buyers that gave me a real feeling of the true value, warts and all. A few months ago I had the pleasure of meeting Richard White in his role of Salesperson Residential for Barfoot & Thompson. Richard had recently moved across to premium residential sales from some years in Commercial real estate.
I was at the time assisting Margaret, a dear elderly friend (88), with selecting the services of a real estate agent to handle the sale of her heritage-listed home of 48 years.
Of the three agents short-listed Richard, and his colleague, Liz Derbyshire, readily impressed both Margaret and me at the initial interview. Richard shone in terms of establishing a warm connection with both Margaret and me, listening carefully and responding thoughtfully and genuinely to the points we raised.
I should add that it was imperative that the agents chosen would have a productive and sensitive relationship with Margaret and be alert to the sensitivities of her finally moving from a much-loved home of nearly five decades.
Richard and his colleague proposed a different method of marketing and selling the property to the other two agents short-listed and it was with considerable care that Margaret and I tested Richard as to the merits of disposing of her property in that way to ensure an optimal outcome financially.
Their arguments were persuasive and after a further couple of hours of discussion following the close of interviews, Margaret and I determined on Richard and Liz being the preferred agents and Barfoot and Thompson as being the chosen agency.
The outcome, after three weeks on the market, was very satisfactory and proved the wisdom of marketing the property in exactly the manner Richard and Liz recommended.
