Fundraising effort brings Christmas joy to Starship

We’re thrilled to announce that our 2014 Barfoot & Thompson fundraising challenge has raised $160,000 for the Starship Foundation, exceeding our target by $10,000.

The cheque for $160,000 was presented to Starship Chief Executive, Brad Clark, by Barfoot & Thompson Managing Director, Peter Thompson, at a moving and inspiring event held at the Barfoot & Thompson head office.

The event acknowledged the incredible impact such donations have on the lives of the children in Starship, their families and the medical staff who work there.

Donation to fund vital new equipment

The donation will be used to fund vital pieces of breathing and resuscitation equipment at Starship, the National Children’s Hospital.

The equipment will see doctors and specialists better resourced to help some of New Zealand’s smallest and most vulnerable patients.

Hard work and dedication pay off

The donation will help to buy:

  • A Video Laryngoscope and Ventilator for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit
  • A Resuscitation Video System for the Children’s Emergency Department

Starship Foundation Chief Executive Brad Clark says it’s largely due to the tireless support of major sponsors like Barfoot & Thompson that they are able to maintain Starship as a world-class medical facility.

"The team at Barfoot & Thompson continues to exceed their fundraising goals for Starship, and we can’t emphasise enough how grateful we are for their support,” says Clark.

“Setting themselves an impressive goal to raise $150,000 in 2014, to come in at $160,000 is testament to their hard work and dedication. We know how important the work we do is to their staff, many of whom have had family members stay at Starship, and we don’t take our responsibility to them lightly.”

Our Starship journey

Since becoming a sponsor in 2003, Barfoot & Thompson has raised an incredible $2.5 million for the Starship Foundation, with our salespeople organising a huge range of creative and fun events. Barfoot & Thompson’s Managing Director Peter Thompson said that it had been a fun-filled, sometimes challenging journey.

“Our staff members are deeply committed to supporting the Starship Foundation and continually go above and beyond the goals we set for them. We are delighted to be able to gift Starship with the much-needed new equipment this Christmas and look forward to setting an even greater fundraising target in the New Year!”
