December 2018 rental report

Find out how the average rent for different-sized Auckland properties has changed over the past year.

  • Franklin Manukau is the only focus area with an average rent of less than $500 for a three bedroom property.
  • The average rent increase for three bedroom properties in Central Auckland continues to exceed all other property types, with an increase of $195 in the last 12 months.
  • Average rents for large properties in the Eastern Suburbs have fallen $46 or 4% in the last 12 months.

Source: Barfoot & Thompson analysis of its tenancies as at 31 Dec 2018 and its sales over the last six months for three bedroom properties. Gross yield is calculated using the average sales price and average rental per week for three bedroom properties. Suburbs with less than four tenancies or four sales for three bedroom properties with Barfoot & Thompson are not included.
