Auckland’s rental market kicked off 2026 with one of its busiest Januarys in nearly two years, as renter activity surged following a subdued 2025. Enquiries climbed past 30,000 for the first time since February 2024, with renters not just browsing, but ready to act.
Enquiries: 30,850 – up 37.6% on December and 21.4% on January 2025, the highest since February 2024.
Property viewings: 5,197 – up 9.4% year-on-year.
Rental applications: 4,075 – up 18.4% year-on-year and 44% higher than December, the highest since mid-2024.
