Barfoot & Thompson recognised for the second time as one of New Zealand’s Best Managed Companies

Barfoot & Thompson is proud to have been named once again as one of Deloitte’s Best Managed Companies in New Zealand, alongside Leighs Construction, Service Foods, Signature Homes, and Southbase Construction.

Now in its third year in New Zealand, Deloitte’s Best Managed Companies programme recognises outstanding private businesses, evaluating their performance against global benchmarks for business excellence.

Director, Stephen Barfoot, who was on-hand at last night’s ceremony to accept the honour, said:

“It's our people, their hard work, and their passion for what they do that truly sets us apart and has brought us to where we are today. I’m incredibly proud to accept this on their behalf.”

Backed by a proven framework, the Best Managed Companies programme has been celebrating excellence globally for more than 32 years. Barfoot & Thompson joins over 1,700 private companies worldwide that have been acknowledged and connected through this prestigious initiative.

Sponsored by BNZ, the programme assesses participants across four critical pillars: strategy, culture and commitment, capabilities and innovation, and governance and financials. An independent judging panel, consisting of respected business leaders Catherine Savage, Ben Fahey, and Ross Milne, evaluated all entrants against these rigorous global standards.

Winners are encouraged to continually challenge themselves to maintain their Best Managed Companies status. Barfoot & Thompson, the inaugural winner, returns this year alongside Leighs Construction, Service Foods, and Southbase Construction, with Signature Homes joining for the first time.

Bill Hale, National Leader at Deloitte Private, highlighted the significance of this recognition amid current economic challenges:

“This year’s Best Managed Companies, including Barfoot & Thompson, have demonstrated resilience, adaptability, and strategic focus, achieving remarkable results even amid uncertainty. They exemplify strong leadership and a deep commitment to excellence.”

Barfoot & Thompson is delighted to be part of this global cohort, benefiting from the opportunity to engage and share insights within an international community of leading businesses.
