Compliance countdown: are you ready for 1 July?
A number of tenancy law changes have already come into effect this year, modernising how notices and documents are served, clarifying smoking rules and introducing new protections for tenants affected by family violence.
As your Property Managers, we’re across the latest updates - but if you’d like to read more, you’ll find full details at tenancy.govt.nz
Looking ahead, the biggest priority for landlords is the Healthy Homes deadline.
From 1 July 2025, all private rental properties must meet the Healthy Homes Standards - covering heating, insulation, ventilation, moisture ingress and drainage, and draught stopping. Landlords who don’t meet the requirements could face hefty penalties.
Meeting the standards isn’t a one-off exercise.
Properties need ongoing care - from regularly checking gutters and insulation, to maintaining heating systems and ventilation, to managing draughts, and moisture ingress and drainage over time.
