Interview with Angela Wong, Director

How long did you stay at your previous premises?

10 Years

How far out did you start looking for new office premises? Was it long enough?

We started surveying the market 18 months in advance of signing the new lease. It was long enough to ensure that we had canvased the entire market and selected the best option that met all our needs.

What were the key drivers for your move?

PAVÉ had grown significantly, and we needed more space.

How did you determine what your future office should look like? Did looking at other sites help?

That was easy. We’ve always had a vision for great people and a social, team-based culture. People are a product of their environment, if you put them in a beautiful high-quality space that they are proud to be in they will do their best work, and vice versa. PAVÉ has so many eager, caring and talented people working for the company and the least we can do is respect them by providing a beautifully crafted and highly functional work environment. Looking at other sites did not help, because we always knew what we needed, it was a matter of waiting for the right space and the right terms.

Did the move enable you to change the way you are working?

It allowed us to elevate what we had always done inherently, to grow the company across all touchpoints and strengthen our position in market.

Do you provide all team members with a fixed desk? Why or why not?

Yes we do provide everyone a desk because without a desk they couldn’t do their job. It also provides stability for each member of the team; a sense of stability is crucial for a person’s mental state, it reduces stress and provides predictability and enables flow.

Activity-based working (ABW) - fad or fabulous? Why?

It’s fabulous. Variety is the spice of life. It’s also essential to enable rapid problem solving and implementation strategies, which are often team or group based, whether they be physical or virtual, it is essential for our organisation.

Now that you are occupying the new space, how has the feedback been from your team members? What is the biggest change?

The entire team loves the new space, they are proud of it and enjoy it. It is like a luxury home and workplace.

What piece of furniture has made the most impact with team members and how they work?

We have a put an extensive kitchen and café area in the heart of our space, and anyone who visits is always impressed and envious of the beautiful centrepiece, a bespoke concrete island table.

Are end-of-trip facilities becoming more important? Have team members changed the way they are commuting to work because of this?

Yes. No.

What happened to your on-site storage needs? Have they changed? Are you using less paper?

The space we leased was perfect for us because it had a dedicated large storage area with awesome, easy access. We held out until we found the perfect space.

What are some of the things you did right with the fitout?

We did not compromise on our vision or investment, and this ensured the result would continue to foster our special company culture that is integral to PAVÉ, achieving the outsized results and the best outcomes in market for our client partners. We worked with a professional fitout company to bring our vision to life, this was also essential to deliver the quality result we desired.

What is the one thing you would do differently with the fitout?

Nothing.

What is the one piece of advice you would give another company looking to move premises?

Keep on looking until you find exactly what you are looking for. It is worth the wait.
